Brown People Craft too

I wanted to start this page to show the creativity of people of color. I know that creativity has no color, but often times I feel that people never associate people of color with crafting. I’ve gone to craft stores so many times and have seen shocked looks of workers and customers caused by my presence lol. So I will be using this page to reblog the works of POC (polymer clay, nail art, etc). I’ll try to figure out how to open the page for submissions. Also if you know of any artists on tumblr send them my way =)

So I decided to do a little of everything last night, but I mostly worked on an earring commission.
About the earrings: Someone ordered two pairs of teapot and teacup earrings. I’m really excited about working on them because there’s a certain amount of engineering involved. The first pair is pretty standard, but the second pair… OMG, what am I doing to myself. Haha. Anyway, I’ll be more specific later when I have something to show. I don’t want to jinx myself.
I’m showing this set because there’s one problem solved. Polymer clay teapots like this tend to be made for sitting around in a dollhouse or a shelf, but I have to make something that can withstand daily wear, dropping and hopefully survive being stepped on. Even though the clay bonds when you bake it, it’s still separate pieces that can fall off. Solution: Brush a layer of liquid clay over the whole thing and bake. Now they’re single pieces. Kind of. That’s one problem down and like seven more to go. I also only have a week left to ship these out.
I WILL finish them on time.
The other thing is a sculpture of Samus Aran’s helmet. I’m planning to use it to make a mold to make some earrings. Or a pendant. Or something. We’ll see how the mold comes out.
Oh shit. I just realized I haven’t made the teacups. (And I can’t find the stupid beading needle. UGH.)
